Singapore Toy and Comic Convention 2008: Epilogue Monday - July 7, 2008

Dear All,

Sorry… for some reason I’ve been really quite sick these days.. I don’t know why. I feel like crap, and my body feels like a trash dump. If everything is for a reason, something good had better come out of this… =.= Hey, maybe I’ll get thinner!!! XD Well I’ve been eating nothing but porridge and biscuits.. the conversation with my doctor actually went like this.

Doc: Okay, so for the next couple of days, no meat, no veggies, as little fruit as possible… don’t take salt and sugar in excess, and stay away from milk and milk products…
Me: (stunned) so, what can I eat?
Doc: Oh, biscuits, bread, 100 plus, rice, water, rice with water….
Me: (more stunned, unsure if she’s being serious or if that was my cue to start laughing.

Right! Now we come to the funnest part of shopping (next to the shopping itself, of course =D).. unpacking!!!

In the order we unpacked, not the order we got them. =)

The three decks of Men at Sea trading card game, plus a poster (we have two) plus a box of booster packs… We actually opened these before any others because we couldn’t wait to play =P. one of the posters and 8 of our rare cards are signed by Cedric (creator of Men at Sea)… of these cards, one card had its illustration done by Cedric himself =D

Close up of just the unsigned poster =)

The first goodie-bag we unpacked:

We got this for helping out with crowd control, actually =P

As for what’s inside it…

The white and red limited ed. be@rbricks. =) Please don’t ask me for a better picture, because I’m SO not taking them out of the wrapping.

The Ironman game poster! Not too shabby, wot? =)

Paper folder + pamphlets, leaflets and letters from Chuang Yi Publishers.

This is actually a fashion catalogue kind of thing, by this brand (Dooperdoo). If anyone doesn’t know what to get me for Xmas, the jackets by this brand are SOOOO CUTEEEEEE. HINTHINTHINT!! XD But of course, there’s a reason I didn’t get any.. .sob.

In exchange, you may get from me…

A holographic (What else do you call this? The kind of card that looks 3D when you move it around, but isn’t…) Pokemon Chistmas Card!! Plus all my love, of course =) If you don’t like this one…. try the next one instead =D

We have two of these. =)

Next:

I honestly have no clue what this is exactly or how much it’s worth… but it’s quite cute =P

A set of 5 (TimeZone branded) coasters. They’d be more fun it they weren’t so… commercialized.

Official Animax lanyard. I may actually use this one…

Blank to-fu!!!! This one is still in the wrapper…

This one is signed =D

And yet another blank tofu, only this time, the signature is on the back of its head…

and this face was drawn by Mr Shinichiro Katai himself =D so cute…. <3

Three signatures every time you line up! This is a signed Baby to-fu block. =)

Three To-Fu Blocks standing in a row =D

Look at the Cactus-cat’s name!! It’s NAME!!! (On the top of the box)… well, okay, but it’s close enough =P

I love Tokidoki T_T but the price is almost always just a little too steep for even my pocket.

My sister bought this Moofia Milk Carton, inside is….!!!!… she hasn’t opened it yet =P

Tee, courtesy of Imaginary Friends Studios, signed by Artgerm =D

The design, up close. My brother is fascinated with their logo (at the bottom of the shirt)

Woot. Need I say anything more? XD

This is like, a book of manga previews. We got three… I gave one wrapped one to Mr Leonard, kept one wrapped and unwrapped for ourselves.

My sister bought this. =)

My brother, bought this =D This is an artbook. The pictures for which I don’t have yet.

It’s 3AM. I’ll continue tomorrow. =)

Hey, we bought a lot of stuff,
ThEditor.

Singapore Toy and Comic Convention 2008: Chapter 2 Saturday - July 5, 2008

Dear All,

Sorry for the SUPER late update, but I fell ridiculously ill two nights ago, didn’t sleep, and then ended up in the hospital in yesterday morning. Bad stomach. Must have been something I ate. GOD that hurt. T_T

In any case, I’m slightly better now… and so, I present the short (I was only there for about 4 hours or so, not counting the lining up for the white be@rbrick) photo presentation of my 2nd day at the ComicCon. Too bad my parents had work…. next year, i’ll fly down myself =)

The queue at around 8:30 in the morning O_o

What the queue was for. This is the white be@rbrick.. also limited to only 1000 pcs in the world.

The following photos aren’t of famous people or all that… it was actually much more packed than the previous day, so I only took a few shots =( But i didn’t do very much anyway, that day.

Anyone recognize who this fellow is cosplaying as? XD

Me and to-fu head. XD

Glooommyyyyyyyy <3

Thankfully, he only managed to get at the grey matter. duhhhhhhh……

The crowd at the cosplay competition…. which i couldn’t get good photos of for various reasons T_T except for…

Tifa, and…

Hatsune Miku.

I wonder if these people make their costumes themselves.

…. and, that’s the end of that.

…what, I told you I didn’t stay for very long T_T I did line up a 2nd time to buy parts of the Gloomy booth wall, though ;) All purchases to be revealed in the epilogue… which I will begin writing once all those pictures have been uploaded. Ta.

Singapore Toy and Comic Convention 2008: Chapter 1 Tuesday - July 1, 2008

Dear All,

Soooo sorry for not updating yesterday… but after waking up at 6 to join the queue for the limited edition bearbrick toy TWICE, and on both nights before that sleeping at about 3AM… well, I slept in til 1:30 yesterday when I woke up for lunch, then slept til 3 and then started unpacking and cleaning up my room and taking photos of my souvenirs =) Then, I uploaded like 2 Gigs of images to photobucket (^o^*!!) and well… I’m updating now =P

Right. Let’s start with Saturday morning, 28th June 2008.

The Red Bearbrick

Woke up at around 6-ish, and rushed my brother and sister up to change and wash up. Poor dad ( I did offer to take a cab there) got up and did the same, then drove me and my siblings to the convention center. we thought there would be a mob there…. but (THANK THE LORD) it was freakin empty!!!… except for two singaporean girls Shue Hui and Shue Ting (I think those were their names… crap I keep forgetting).. but no harm there, because the first 1000 people would get the limited edition red bearbrick anyway… so no difference to me if I was 3rd or 4th or 5th =) In any case we quickly made friends while waiting for 11 o’ clock to roll around so that the doors would open!!!

Red Be@rbrick ->.. only 1000 pcs in the world, and between me and my brother and sister, we have three of them ^^ Joy. It says Singapore Toy and Comic Convention on the front, plus the logo.

** Piccies!! The following were taken while waiting for the doors to open.

This is the design on the front of the limited ed be@rbrick.

Fantastic Mural ^^ All the drawings were really drawn on, by the way, not printed. It was done during the closed premiere on Friday night.

This is me in front of the mural. Click to enlarge =) My camera takes photos that should be clear blown up to the size of an A3 paper (11 by 17″) but Photobucket only allows up to 800 by 600pixels… so, sorry ^^

My brother in front of the entrance doors

Me… sprawled in front of the entrance doors.

Then, the first exhibitionists came!

The lightsabers? Not just toys. The handles were really quite well done, and the sound effects rocked, and the light was… well, I’m no Star Wars buff, but it was cool to me all the same XD

“I say stop!!” “No, I say WAIT!!” “Hey, when’s that fellow with the green saber coming along?”

Cool way of keeping your helmets on..

Transformers!! Ta-da-daaa! (I’m going to get so much hate spam for that)

Robot R2-D2. It responds to voices and body heat!! Video here:

[insert video]

Sorry, the guy was moving so the photo’s very blur… but it says, “I am your father (leh)!“… I’d like to own that t-shirt XD

Crowd building up around 9.

***

And then the doors finally opened!! =D

Once people started pouring in, I didn’t exactly feel safe holding my camera all the time… although I did of course take it out now and then for a few exceptional moments, like:

I saw this applic, tabmanga, at the same booth as Apple Computers. I WANT it. But, its s$280. Crap.

my sister drew this with that program in under 7 minutes.

Lots of Death Note and Nightmare Before Christmas toys here… sadly, they weren’t for sale =(

Yes, that is a 5×5x5 Rubik’s Cube. How one is supposed to solve it remains a mystery to me. We did watch a demonstration where this fellow solved it in about 9 minutes… but I was so awed I forgot to take a video.. and of course, he didn’t want to try again.

Bread! (?)

That’s me shaking hands with BlackHook Beard the Pirate on stage.. I won a competition!! XD What I won was a deck of cards, a booster pack and a poster from this booth: Men At Sea.

It’s a new TCG and it was premiering that day! We got the preview starter pack. Later on, when the creator of the game, Cedric, and his team told us more about the game and the website and their plans for the future, my brother, sister and I bought 8 more booster packs and 2 more decks… with Cedric’s promise that by the end of the year they planned to ship these cards internationally, MY and UK included. =D

The official website is here: http://www.menatsea.com.

We even got Cedric to sign our cards. =)

NEXT!!

Pullip dolls from the Rozen Maiden anime. I actually wanted to buy one of the Pullip dolls.. but the cheapest one was S$150… =.= There are things I can afford, and then…

Recognize these two, Mr Leonard? Click to enlarge.

Tees from a fantastic artist studio called Imaginary Friends. I bought several Only-Available-There prints from them (all signed by the respective artists), but because I can’t find a way to contact the artist for permission, I won’t be showing you guys the prints themselves =) You can, however, take my word for it that the art rocks. My favourite artist there (We bought 5 of his prints, about Rm12-15 each) is Artgerm. You can look him up on deviantart.com.

And of course, here’s me with some famous (or soon to be famous) people =)

This is Mr Mori Chack (森チャック Mori Chakku) from Osaka, Japan; creator of the vampire bear Gloomy and his poor master, Pity. I bought the Gloomy handpuppet, and he signed it for me on the back of its head!! More up-close pics of my purchases to come later.

This is me and Mr Shinichiro Katai of Devil Robots and TO-FU Oyako! fame. He just signed my blank to-fu block for me. =) Pix of purchases later.

This is SIR FONG~!.. I’m sure you can see why his booth caught my attention ^^ I bought his comic book, and he signed it for me!! He has a blog too… http://sirfong.blogspot.com. I think I’m there somewhere XD

The following are artworks we randomly took shots of that day:

Starbucks mural on a wall.

Not too sure where this is from ^^”

Random poster, on the wall of one of the exhibits…

Well, that’s about it for Saturday’s little adventure, I’m afraid. After all that (plus some more shopping and lining up for signatures and freebies) the whole family went to the Singapore Night Zoo to relax and unwind.

We finished at about 12-ish, went back to the hotel and repacked everything. I told dad I wanted to go early again the next morning. Daddy went ‘mmph‘ and fell asleep.

To be continued….

Chapter 1 end,
ThEditor.
